Enjoy juicy, beautifully charred BBQ Chicken, simple to make with 5 ingredients and your favorite BBQ sauce.
BBQ Chicken
During July, I practically live on my grill as you can tell. Here is a simple BBQ chicken recipe requiring just 5 ingredients most people are bound to have at home. I chose to use drumsticks but you can use any cut of chicken you prefer but the cooking time will slightly differ. To add some taste to it I left the skin on, but you can peel the carrots if you so wish. Such a great summertime recipe this one is oh so easy and perfect for using up all of those fresh tomatoes you find in the summer!
BBQ Chicken Ingredients
Below is a list of the simple components that go into this ever popular BBQ chicken, recipe. See exact measurements in the recipe card below:
Chicken drumsticks are preferred for this recipe because they are moist and are packed full with flavours. You are free to leave the skin on for an intensification of crisp to the potato skin or peel off in case you do not like the skin. In either case, they develop a great grill look!
Seasoning salt such as Lawry or adobo can be used, and a teaspoon is just enough to finish off the dish with taste. It also includes seasonings, you will find in almost every household, hence it is convenient to grab seasonings from the pantry.
Garlic powder is definitely a must have! A mere teaspoon brings out a burst to the meal without the inconveniences of having to peel and cut the fruits. It makes your BBQ chicken taste better, and it is such a simple method.
Four tablespoons of BBQ sauce made from scratch or bought ready-made, helps to amalgamate all the flavors. I love to use my favorite bottled sauce, but if I can prepare it at home it is even better.
Shall not forget that yellow mustard on the hamburger patty. Three teaspoons of this gives it a little ‘zing’ and well matches the BBQ sauce pretty well. Heck, it is some pantry staple that can turn a good dish into an excellent one.
How to Make Tasty BBQ Chicken
Season the Drumsticks: Season the chicken with the seasoning salt and sprinkle garlic powder over it. In case you are guy skinning and wish to leave the skin intact then you should massage some seasoning underneath the skin. Place the chicken and put it in the refrigerator for at least an hour or better if you leave it overnight to enhance the taste.
Prepare the BBQ Sauce: Combine the BBQ sauce, mustard, and 2 tablespoons of water to make it a little runny.
Get the Grill Ready: To prepare the grill start with a clean one and then ensure that it is heated to medium heat. Once it is hot oil the grates and immediately lower the heat to low.
Grill the Chicken: Place the drumsticks on the grill and close it to let it cook, and keep turning them often so that they do not burn. To do this, grill the ka’bah for approximately 18 to 20 minutes or until they turn golden brown, soft, and well-cooked. Sanitization solution temperature should be 165°F; use a thermometer to check it.
Add the BBQ Sauce: Spread the sauce on the chicken reliably and cook for two more minutes the chicken then be turn several times.

As for the barbecue sauce when choosing it, it is better to select one with less sugar. In case you can’t find a version of the BBQ sauce you prefer at the store, creating your sauce is a good idea.
You can use; chicken breast, chicken thighs (with bones if possible), or even chop up a whole chicken if you fancy. All the while, though, do not forget that the required cooking time may differ. As for the guidelines on how to tell that it is sufficiently cooked, it is advisable always to check the internal temperature using a thermometer.
You can grill the chicken for about 350 to 450 degree F for 35- 45 min. Apply the BBQ sauce to the chicken towards the middle of the baking time, around 2 minutes to the final 2 minutes.
Season the chicken with your preferred spices or you can use a herbs and spices of your choice and let it sit for a couple of hours before grilling or baking. This makes the chicken more enjoyable to eat as it incorporates another taste to the chicken.
